DESCRIPTION

An international outlook unifies this unusual collection of works, from Carl Nielsen’s quasi-impressionistic symphonic poem based on the ancient Greek legend portraying an amorous musical god to Romanian-French Marius Constant’s blazing tribute to the towering English painter. Bizet looked to Mozart and Imperial Vienna in his popular early opus and, a century later, Prokofiev’s cosmopolitan neoclassicism indelibly marked the great Russian’s beloved concerto.

CARL NIELSEN: Pan and Syrinx Op. 49
MARIUS CONSTANT: Turner
SERGE PROKOFIEV: Violin Concerto No. 2 in g minor, Op. 63
GEORGES BIZET: Symphony in C

". . . violinist Catherine Manoukian, however, . . . ‘sings’ Strauss’s exultant phrases with a seamless cantabile which constantly reminds one that Strauss was one of the finest composers for the voice.” - BBC Music Magazine
